The Wolfe Creek meteorite crater is the second largest crater in the world, created 300,000 years ago, when an extremely large meteorite crashed to earth, fragments of the meteorite have been collected, since the discovery in 1947, during an aerial survey, by Frank Reeves, N.B. Sauve, and pilot Dudley Hart. The crater had been known to the local Djaru Aboriginal people for thousands of years, forming a significant part of Dreamtime stories. The crater is approximately 880 metres across and almost circular.
