Extinct snaggletooth shark – Hemipristis serra Estimated length : Five metres (16 feet) Age : Late Miocene, about 6 million years old Locality : Venice Beach, Florida The modern Snaggletooth shark is restricted to the southern tropical oceans, and is not thought to be a threat to man. It’s giant Miocene ancestor, however, had few natural enemies and was a fearsome predator of the tropical oceans. It’s long hooked serrated teeth allowed it to choose it’s prey at will.
