Moroccan false porbeagle shark – Cretalamna maroccanaEstimated length : four metres (13 feet)Age : Late Cretaceous, about 66 million years oldLocality : Khouribga, MoroccoThis is a shark with fairly wide, stout teeth. It is currently only known from African deposits. It’s diet probably consisted of large bony fishes, like sailfish and tuna. It became extinct during the upheaval at the end of the Cretaceous, when the dinosaurs disappeared. This is usually attributed to a meteorite, but sea level fall and volcanic activity could also have played a decisive role.
