Ancient Crow Shark - Squalicorax pristodontus
Estimated length : four and a half metres (13 feet)
Age : Late Cretaceous, about 66 million years old
Locality : Khouribga, Morocco
This extinct shark had teeth similar in shape to those of a modern Tiger shark, so one can surmise it had a similar life style.
The fine serrations allow the tooth to slice through tough skin and flesh. It has been suggested that this species lived on cephalopods like large squid, but it is as likely that it was an opportunist scavenger like the Tiger shark. It became extinct at the same time as the dinosaurs.
